The calendar tells us when hunting season starts and ends.  But for those of us who live this.  Breathe this.  Need this.  For us the pursuit never stops.  

When the calendar tells us it’s hunting season, that’s our time to shine.  That’s our performance.  It’s when we get to bear down, grit our teeth and do what we do.  It’s our time to battle the elements and test our mettle against the game we’re pursuing.  We’re the hunters.  We’re the providers.  Our pursuit never stops.

When the calendar tells us it’s not hunting season, well, that’s when we do the real work.  The game we pursue don’t get days off.  When our season ends, they’re still battling predators.  Survival is their pursuit, and it - literally - never stops.  So they are constantly getting more wary. Smarter.  Tougher.  That’s why we work.  That’s why our pursuit can never stop.

We get stronger.  More conditioned.  Tougher.  We may all do it in different ways, but we’re all working, with one eye on the calendar.  We lift.  Sometimes before we go to work in the morning.  Sometimes before we go to bed at night.  Sometimes both.  We run.  Sometimes long and slow.  Sometimes short and fast.  We don’t lift just to look pretty on the beach.  We don’t run just to get ripped with 6-pack abs.  We train to get better.  We need to be stronger and more capable, not just for our pursuit, but also out of respect for the game we chase.  They deserve our best, and they’re damn sure giving us their best.  Because their pursuit never stops.

While the people around us are exercising, we’re training.  We have a hard, defined goal toward which we’re working.  After Joe Normal is done exercising, he takes a shower and eats his dinner.  Not us.  When we’re done training, we go outside and pick up the bow and shoot a hundred arrows.  We pick up the rifle and work our way through a box of ammunition.  We throw on our boots and a weighted pack and hike the mountains.  The pursuit never stops.
